Auditing a Course at WSU
Auditing a course allows an individual to attend and observe a class without earning academic credit. Audit enrollment is subject to instructor approval, space availability, university policies, and registration deadlines. Students interested in auditing a course should consult the Office of the Registrar regarding eligibility, enrollment procedures, and important deadlines.
Audit enrollments are recorded on your academic record as “Audit Only – No Credit Given.”
Audit Fees
- Students enrolled in fewer than 10 credits who audit a course are assessed an audit fee of $194 per audit credit. Students enrolled in 10 or more credits are not charged an additional audit fee.
- Audit fees are non-refundable.
- Additional mandatory fees may apply based on enrollment status and campus requirements.
Audit Fee Exemptions
Certain individuals may qualify for an audit fee exemption, including:
- Students enrolled in 10 or more credits.
- Eligible faculty and staff participating in an approved tuition waiver program, subject to program limitations.
- Eligible senior citizens under Washington State law and applicable university policies.
Students should review eligibility requirements with the Office of the Registrar.
Washington residents age 60 or older may be eligible to audit courses under the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver Program, subject to university policy and space availability. For eligibility requirements and enrollment procedures, please contact the Office of the Registrar.
Eligible faculty and staff may qualify for audit fee exemptions through the university’s tuition waiver program, subject to program limits and university policy. Questions regarding tuition waiver eligibility should be directed to Human Resource Services and the Office of the Registrar.
