Defaulted student loans, 135 days past due are referred to the Collection Department.The collector tries to contact the client and establish a repayment plan. Attempts that are unsuccessful will be referred by the collection manager to an outside collection agency. The University has contracted with at least four agencies to perform collection services. An additional collection fee will be assessed to the debtor. The assessed penalty is 33 1/3% to 50%. All possible means to collect will be pursued which could include legal action, and may result in a judgment and/or wage garnishment.
